Hello and welcome to The God Cast, the podcast where we explore God's Word. Learn more about how to strengthen our relationship with him, and also how to practically apply all the things that we've learned into our everyday lives. And today, we are going to be looking at the first chapter of the Book of Revelation. And let me just tell you, this book really hits different and today I am joined by.

00;00;30;26 - 00;00;56;16
Unknown
Hi, I'm Nontsi. Hi, I'm Germyn and hi, Gianna. Oh, and my name is Ana. In case I didn't say that, I didn't specify that earlier. And, so today the title is, The Revelation of Jesus. So but before we get into the verses, let's start with an icebreaker activity. Okay. So what is your guys's favorite thing about the month of January?

00;00;56;18 - 00;01;20;19
Unknown
Well, I think going back to school to see friends. Oh, like that you didn't get to see over break. I think just getting to be with friends again is pretty cool. It. Yeah. I agree, personally, I think just being able to see your friends since winter break has ended and also like, you know, New Year's, the time to like, be new.

00;01;20;19 - 00;01;46;09
Unknown
It's time to renew yourself. Yeah. So I like about it. I think it's the good thing about January starting a new thing, like where you can start all new like there, like you can go to like the next grade or like when you're doing like something different that you plan for next year. Yeah definitely. Those are some really good responses.

00;01;46;09 - 00;02;11;14
Unknown
I personally like January for the snow because I like snow two okay. So to start let's read verses one through three. So I can start first. So the revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what soon, what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servants.

00;02;11;14 - 00;02;40;00
Unknown
John. Someone can someone read the second verse? I'd like to. So verse two, who testifies to everything he saw? That is the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Okay. Could someone read the third verse? I thank you. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

00;02;40;00 - 00;03;20;03
Unknown
He. Okay, so, the first kind of, question to kind of lead out this conversation is what can we learn about the Book of revelation from these three verses? If I go ahead. So like low key, what I heard or what I read through one verse three is that this is the time when Jesus is revealed, his revealed in a new way, a new sensation, and that also he getting to three blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take it to heart.

00;03;20;05 - 00;03;45;11
Unknown
I think it's that time where we gotta let it sink in, let it come to life. We need to be aware. That's one of the things I noticed in the race. Oh, I think also the very last part says because the time is near, I think the book of Revelation is the book that tells us that time is wrapping up, and we need to be aware of what's going on around us.

00;03;45;13 - 00;04;15;15
Unknown
So yeah, definitely. I think for me something that hit different is probably, verse two which states who testifies to everything he saw. Probably for me, it kind of, shows that we're supposed to like, testify and like show that we believe in him and we shouldn't be afraid of the gospel during that time. I mean, when I think of, like, revelation, I think of something big being revealed.

00;04;15;15 - 00;04;43;00
Unknown
And that's exactly what it is. I think that's what the title of the book means to be revealed. So I think that's a that's a pretty cool thing to think about. Yeah. Okay. So, okay, so now let's read, verses nine. I can read verse nine. Okay. So, it's titled John's Vision of Christ. So it says I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours.

00;04;43;00 - 00;05;03;14
Unknown
And Jesus was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. So we kind of have a background of like where John was and what he was doing when the entire, history of the end of the world was revealed to him. And I'm just thinking about it like John was a human being just like us.

00;05;03;17 - 00;05;25;05
Unknown
And I can't imagine how overwhelmed he must have felt, which there's this incredible thing being revealed to him, and him being tasked with writing everything down and making sure that others have, like, full access, so that as many people can be like as prepared as possible for the end to come. That is just like a huge it's a huge, mind boggling thing.

00;05;25;05 - 00;06;00;09
Unknown
Sure, sure. Yeah. So, that was just a little, side note here, but let's continue reading. From verses 12, someone read the meaning. I'm going. I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me, and when I turned and saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man dressed in a robe, reaching down to his feet with a golden sash around his chest.

00;06;00;12 - 00;06;24;17
Unknown
The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze, glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing water. I read the next register in his right hand. He held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double edged sword.

00;06;24;20 - 00;07;09;20
Unknown
His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Wow. That is that's some strong imagery right there. That is like. That's eye opening. So, next question is what are several things we learn about Jesus, specifically in these verses? If I could like so like for me personally, the things that stood out to me, if I were to point out one of them is how he talks about the blazing fire in his eyes because, like we think of God as, you know, a man of calm, like, be calm, be calm.

00;07;09;22 - 00;07;39;06
Unknown
Yeah, he's a man of calmness, pure, very collected. And when all of a sudden you see in the verse that his eyes were like blazing fire, you start to see, oh, well, what's going on here? It's like, I feel like the blazing fire represents how much sin has just been entering and just invading our world. And he's had enough of it.

00;07;39;06 - 00;08;10;08
Unknown
And it's like, you know, when you when it's happened so much that, you know, you just haven't had enough of it. His patience. Yes. His patience has run out. And that's one thing that really stands to me. How about you? I feel like we should take a moment to think about the double edged sword. Because it says in his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was like a sharp, double edged sword.

00;08;10;14 - 00;08;41;29
Unknown
When we think of a double edged sword, I'm talking a sword that cuts both ways. So when that is, when we think of what comes out of the mouth of God, we are talking life. We're talking conviction, we're talking all these important factors. And when I think about it, that the words that come out of his mouth like a double edged sword, I think I see it as when he speaks to someone, it cuts right to like it does not miss him, I think.

00;08;42;03 - 00;09;29;09
Unknown
So that's when starts paying attention. Exactly, exactly. You get convicted, you're moved to do something. Because obviously if I stabbed you, you would feel something. I do something about. Yeah, exactly, exactly. So I feel like that is an important factor to think about. Yeah. How about you. I think probably it was his face was like the sun shining in all of its brilliance to probably in that end of the day will probably like people will come to see his him revealing himself and showing them his like holiness and how his appearance will upset, you know, humanity and all that.

00;09;29;09 - 00;09;54;26
Unknown
We normally think of saying, oh, he has, this is how he looks like. No, this is how he looks like to the final day. Yeah. Okay. Yep. A lot of anticipation there. Yeah. I'd like to add something else. So as I was like as we were reading here, one thing that stood out to me is that, we like again, we're reading all these descriptive words of, like, what he physically looks like.

00;09;54;26 - 00;10;16;14
Unknown
But one thing that stood out to me, it said was someone like a son of man. So what I'm what I'm visualizing here is that he, like, his hair is, like, as white as wool blazing like blazing fire in his eyes. He's holding seven stars in his hands. But what I'm also seeing is that he. He also looks like a human being at the same time.

00;10;16;14 - 00;10;36;00
Unknown
So kind of it's kind of reassuring to me because, like, if, like, if I was seeing him, like, you know, blazing in, in all his glory, I'd be kind of afraid. But just seeing him as a human being would kind of give me comfort because, like, he looks like us. Yeah, yeah. So that's kind of like that familiarity kind of aspect of it.

00;10;36;00 - 00;11;02;25
Unknown
Because, like, when he came down to earth, he was born of human parents, so like a son of man. And so I think I think of that a little bit and it's like really comforting for me. And also, the, the it wasn't an allegory, but like, the description that you use, the blazing fire, what I was thinking and your, description of, like, how sin, like, controls our lives in that way.

00;11;02;27 - 00;11;29;02
Unknown
I was thinking like, okay, so if we see, fire on a candlestick, it's tiny, and we're like, okay, sin can be manageable. If it's like a tiny sin, we can manage it. But like, soon, that like, how fast can, like one flame on a candlestick turn into a forest fire before it becomes unmanageable? Yeah, that's that's kind of what I was thinking, just that, like that spreading of sin and just how quickly it can engulf our lives.

00;11;29;02 - 00;11;56;07
Unknown
Yes. So yeah, I'd also just like to add just a quick thing, back to the point where you said in his image, like, it's comforting that he resembles us a takes me back to the beginning, maybe in Genesis, if I'm accurate. It says that we were he was we were created in his image. So like, I feel like it's going to be reassuring because again, we were made in his image.

00;11;56;14 - 00;12;20;11
Unknown
He was not made in our image. We were made in his image. So we kind of have like an idea of who he is. Yeah, that's what I was actually, I know, yeah. Okay. So thank you guys for those really deep insights. Okay. So now let's move on. I can read verse seven. Okay. So verse seven says, look, he is coming with the clouds and every eye will see him.

00;12;20;13 - 00;12;46;03
Unknown
Even those who pierced him and all peoples on earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be. Amen, Amen. So, so what details do we learn more about here? About Jesus second coming to earth? If I come on again. So it says, look, he is coming with the clouds and every eye will see him when I feel like I feel like you.

00;12;46;05 - 00;13;14;17
Unknown
For me personally, guys, again, I'm just sharing my opinion. This may not be accurate, actually. I'm just like you guys. I'm here to study the word. But back to what I was saying. You know how these talk about rapture, like, let's say like, for example, there'll be a time when Jesus will take everybody on earth, but, like, they will disappear and like you, like you can't even physically see them.

00;13;14;17 - 00;13;48;06
Unknown
Like, once they're gone, they're gone into up to heaven. But this verse claim, well, the verse states that he's coming with the clouds and every eye will see him. So I'm getting an image like, there's not going to be this immediate. Like, oh, everybody's gone. It's more like, you know, over time, God will reveal himself to prove to everyone that he existed because it would not be really fair if he just snatched some people that the rest of they're still confused, like, what's going on?

00;13;48;06 - 00;14;18;08
Unknown
But like, since, you know, God says he will come, so everybody will see. It's kind of a I feel like the idea of rapture should be better explained. I feel like according to this verse, that's what I was. That's what I was going to speak on to, because I feel like a lot of times when I when we go out and we explain the concept of heaven, you know, Second Coming, people expect it to just be like a silent thing.

00;14;18;10 - 00;14;39;28
Unknown
No, it says everybody on zoom, including the ones that pierced him, that includes the enemies, the people who you tried to save, but they did not want to be seen. So everyone is going to witness for themselves because I feel like if they do not let me see, they will not going to believe it for themselves. They'll be like that one girl.

00;14;40;04 - 00;15;07;22
Unknown
She tried to tell me, but it never happened. But I feel like when we see Christ coming, yeah, with our own eyes, we will know what's going on. And I feel like it'll be an a self-explanatory do your buddy service. Well, so I, I really like that. I really like that. But one two. I think probably it has already been like covered like what you guys said.

00;15;07;24 - 00;15;57;02
Unknown
Okay. But I think maybe also in will mourn in in the words that will mourn because of him. Also to clarify that I think it kind of mostly states like when there's this verse that it said in the Bible talking about that there will be, seven years of happiness and seven years of mourning. So like, it's kind of also saying that we're gonna, like, have to experience sorrow before, like having to, like, you know, receive him physically because, of all the sins, you know, that we kind of committed because he will still, take us because God hates the sin, not the sinner.

00;15;57;04 - 00;16;29;04
Unknown
I mean, that's a that's a very important thing, right? Yeah. That was that was just. Yes. Okay. So, we've we're kind of coming to the end of the episode here, but, now for, kind of, practical application time. So what is something specifically from this passage that you would like to share with a friend if they ever asked you about it or asked you for, like, advice on something, what is something that you would say to them from this passage that stood out most to you, that you think would help them the best?

00;16;29;06 - 00;16;49;22
Unknown
I think personally, let's not talk about advent is friends because like we've known this all our lives. Like, let's be honest, I feel like when you're speaking to someone who doesn't believe in what you believe, I feel like the book of Revelation is eye opening. As much as it's confusing. This book is about it talks about like the revelation of Jesus.

00;16;49;22 - 00;17;12;03
Unknown
So when I say, do you know Jesus? Once you've read the book of revelation, you will say, yes, I do. Yes. So I feel like I would advise not as the first book, but as a book to get to experience Jesus deeper and what he's all about and what salvation is all about. So yeah. Blueprints. Exactly, exactly.

00;17;12;08 - 00;17;35;18
Unknown
Yeah. So that's, that's how I would personally apply it. And I feel like for us, it's a good book to get into like connect with Christ because that's how we get to strengthen our relationship and deepen it, because now we're talking about who he is. So yeah I think that's important to me. If I may if I may add.

00;17;35;21 - 00;18;01;20
Unknown
Yeah. Good one. Okay. Well there's two verses but the first I would like I feel like I'd, you know share with the friend is where it v7. Look he's coming with the clouds and every eye will see him even those who pierced him and all people, all people on earth will mourn because of him. Now I want I really want this to be emphasized.

00;18;01;22 - 00;18;35;25
Unknown
I want people to know that, look, the world is getting wrapped up. Time is wrapping up. It's wrapping up its course. So, you know, we should start deciding now what is going to be. I see, you know, I get a light, you know, everybody got their future. You know they got their future. They got big plans. But you know seeing this is like, hey, look, I know that you want to do what you want to do, but look, time is wrapping up, which is that generation that's not really going to get to see our dreams as well as we want it to.

00;18;35;25 - 00;18;59;04
Unknown
But I'm going to go see him. And I feel like that should be a sign of hope. Yet something to look forward to. Yeah, and I believe that even those who betrayed him will see him. So it'll be a very interesting experience when you put it in that way personally. Yeah. Thank you. So thank you so much for that.

00;18;59;06 - 00;19;37;28
Unknown
Yeah. Anything else? Oh I was wondering so I think the for me, the worst that I would probably tell a friend is probably verse 12 through 17 because like, I would want them to have a glimpse of what would happen, like the events that would take place during the end of the world to come. Because like, I would probably like explain to them about like how Jesus or God would come dressed, you know, in a robe, reaching down his feet with gold slash around his neck.

00;19;38;00 - 00;20;10;02
Unknown
The hair on his head was white as well. And then just blazing the blazing fire in his eyes, and also talking about how he's going to pierce through people, like he's going to pierce through, probably the devil with his two. Yeah, yeah. With, a sword in his mouth, which it kind of illustrates that he which kind of like illustrates about the outcomes and events and what the Lord is going to do to us and about the ending of time.

00;20;10;02 - 00;20;40;12
Unknown
So I think that would be something I tell a friend to remind. Thank you guys so much for that. Okay. Well, we've had a, an amazing discussion and conversation about the first chapter of revelation here. And, this chapter, definitely, emphasizes how even though Jesus is our ultimate king and savior, he's also, a person to really relate to because, like, everything that we've experienced and are going to experience in the future, he's already experienced that.

00;20;40;19 - 00;21;08;06
Unknown
He knows what we're going through. So at the same time, like he is someone that we look up to, but he, he also takes care of us because he knows what we're going and that's why we call him friend. Yeah. Just like that. Amen. And so we hope, that today's discussion has, helped you get a deeper understanding of just how much Jesus loves you and wants you to fulfill your greatest purpose here on earth.

00;21;08;09 - 00;21;27;03
Unknown
And so, thank you for tuning in for this episode of The God Cast. And, until next time, join us. Please join us again for, the next episode where we, dive deeper into another part of revelation. But until then, take care and just know that Jesus loves you and wants the very best for you.
